Watching the English

I have just read Kate Fox’s book – Watching the English and recommend it to anyone who plan to work with English partners, or live in England.

Kate Fox is a  social anthropologist and her writing is light, precise and really witty. Briefly she  set out to determine what makes the English ‘English’ and has come up with a sharp portrayal of English society. She covers codes of conversation, behaviour etc. and also deal with the strong, inherent, English class system.

Her observations are sharp and humerous, some sections being so good that it was a real wrench to stop reading and go and do something about earning the daily bread.

The full title is “Watching the English. The hidden rules of english behaviour”. My copy is a paperback, published by  Hodder & Stoughton, London, 2005. ISBN 0-340-81886-7.
