Knowledge management and focusing

Abelone’s blog entry on ” looking after your homepages is like tendering to your garden” struck a chord – I had exactly the same notion a few years back – only, in my case, gardening related to Knowledge Management. I had a light-hearted item published on KnowledgeBoard. Miguel Cornejo picked the notion up and wrote an excellent paper on blogging :”The community of practice ecosystems”. All of which is a bit remote from what I set out to write about: Knowledge management and fact sheets.

Dann Sommer is so right: trying to describe what I actually offer certainly focuses the mind! KM is a huge topic, continually evolving, both regarding theory and software. I focus on the aspect of evaluating the organization/business’ internal KM culture -who knows what, who links to whom (social networks or lack of same) and what the employees considers functions well – and conversely what they would like to see changed. Come to think of it – a bit like writing a fact sheet on a larger scale…
